According to Aneel, Brazil’s power sector regulator, the country has issued permits for a total of 344.25MW wind farms to commence operations. Wind power capacity represented about 71 per cent of the total connected capacity in January.
According to data from the power sector watchdog, wind farms now account for 11.55 per cent of Brazil’s total installed capacity, while solar represents 2.52 per cent. Hydroelectric plants are still the largest producers of sustainable energy in the country and account for more than half of the installed capacity.
Brazil’s arrived in 2022 with 181,944.5MW of authorised power. As much as 82.99 per cent of the total is produced from sustainable and low-emission sources. Aneel plans to enable some 7,625MW of new capacity to go online this year, the agency added.
