According to Algeria’s Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy, Benattou Ziane, the recent call for tenders to deploy 1GWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity has received interest from about 80 local and international developers. The minister stated that the developers who have requested to review the terms and conditions for the “Solar 1,000 project” plan to invest in the sector.
Algeria launched the call for tenders in December 2021. The tender looks to allocate solar capacity in lots of between 50MW and 300MW. Each developer can compete for one or more batches of 300MW in total. The winners will be awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The plants are set to be constructed across 11 sites in the country.
Interested developers are expected to submit their bids by the end of April.
