- DBN approves funding for solar deployment in Namibia.
- The solar park will contribute 30% of the mine’s power.
The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has approved the financing for constructing the Rosh Pinah Solar Park (RPSP) in Namibia. The facility will have a capacity of 5.4MW and be located adjacent to the Rosh Pinah zinc and lead mine in Namibia. The plant will power the mine, reducing operating costs while improving the mine’s sustainability.
Otesa Energy will be responsible for the plant’s construction, and Emesco Energy will develop the plant. The solar park’s Director and Shareholder, Elmo Kalyamo, noted that during the 15-year Power Purchase Agreement, the solar park would contribute 30% of the mine’s power while reducing carbon emissions by 6%.
“By financing renewable energy generated by Independent Power Producers, DBN aims to reduce cash flows out of the country, increase the amount of locally generated electricity, and reduce future costs associated with developing and maintaining cross-border transmission infrastructure,” the DBN said in a statement.
