Italian Company to Develop Strategic Growth Plan for Oman’s Power Grid

  • Oman goes into an agreement with an Italian power giant.
  • OETC plans to develop an integrated transmission system.

The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has yet taken another step into growing the country’s energy capacity. The company, which stands as the nation’s monopolistic provider of transmission services across a greater portion of the Sultanate of Oman, has engaged the services of a leading Italian power engineering and consultancy firm – CESI – to drive the masterplan for the development of Oman’s interconnected power grid for the next 20 years.

The master plan, according to CESI, will be focused on strengthening the OETC’s strategies for the inclusion of an integrated transmission system that incorporates the plans of expanding the country’s renewable and green energy capacity using the available large area of lands that the country possesses.

CESI, who has been an active player in Oman’s electricity selector, reiterated that the masterplan is a great step in the right direction which will propel the country’s ambition of integrating an increased percentage of renewable energy power (solar and wind) in a bid to decarbonize Oman’s economy.
