- Tanesco utility completes new power project.
- Rukwa municipality suffered load shedding for over six months.
After a six-month power rationing in the municipality of Rukwa, Tanzania’s power utility, Tanesco, has doubled the power supply capacity to the region. This comes as the utility completed a 3.8bn project to construct a 15 Mega Volt-Amp (MVA), increasing supply in the region to 30 MVA.
In a statement, Rukwa’sTanesco Regional Customers Officer, Mwajuma Rubibi, told the ‘Daily News’ that the transformer would further step up and improve the quality and power supply that their customers failed to enjoy for six months.
“The new transformer would generate sufficient power to supply the whole of Rukwa and some parts of Mlele District in the Katavi region,” Mwajuma said.
Before completing the new transformer, Rukwa received power 98 kilometers from Mbala Township in neighboring Zambia, with a capacity of 15 MVA.
