- Four green hydrogen production sites are to be developed.
- The project will serve different vehicle ranges.
Hydrogen Corp, the first developer of Canadian hydrogen-fuel-cell, powered light commercial vehicle, is now set to develop four green hydrogen production projects in the United Kingdom. In March, Hydrogen Corp announced the creation of a new business arm named First Hydrogen Energy. The unit is to be focused on the production and distribution of green hydrogen and will start will projects in the UK and Canada.
First hydrogen, this week revealed that it had identified four industrial sites in the United Kingdom and had initiated discussions with landowners towards securing land rights. It also stated that it was working with Ove Arup and Partners Ltd, an engineering consultancy. The work with Ove Arup and Partners is focused on engineering studies and designs.
Each site will have a refuelling station alongside an on-site hydrogen production facility that will serve light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles. The sites will also produce hydrogen between 20MW and 40MW. They will provide green hydrogen for the Greater Liverpool, Greater Manchester, the London area, and the Thames Estuary regions of the United Kingdom.
The company expects that the sites will qualify for financial support from the UK government, which will aid the development and construction phases of the project in line with the 10GW of hydrogen, of which 5GW is green, as identified in the new UK Energy Security Strategy.
First Hydrogen is designing and developing a hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered light commercial demonstrator vehicle with a 500-kilometre-plus (310.7 miles) range under two agreements with Austria’s AVL Powertrain and Canada’s Ballard Power Systems Inc. Its green hydrogen van is to start demonstrator testing in June.
