Burkina Faso: Oolu Signs the First BGFA Project

  • Oolu Burkina Faso is set to deploy Solar Home Systems in rural communities.

Oolu Burkina Faso has signed an agreement with the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) to scale-up high-quality solar home systems for people living in rural areas of Burkina Faso.

Oolu plans to deploy energy solutions and services, including various solar home systems and large standalone systems for residential, commercial and institutional customers. The contract’s total value is EUR 2.5 million, with a total project budget of at least EUR 5 million. With the support of BGFA, Oolu will scale up its current business activities in Burkina Faso, aiming to establish over 28,000 additional subscriptions over four years.

Oolu has been developing solar home systems for the African market since 2015, and the company is active across six West African countries. The Burkina Faso subsidiary was established in 2018 and was the first company in the country to sell PAYGO-based renewable energy services.
