- Taraba community receives electricity from the new hydropower plant.
- The plant is yet to be commissioned.
According to a report by The Vanguard, the 40MW Kashimbilla hydropower project in the Taraba community has commenced commercial operations. The project, which began construction works under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, was completed under the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Vanguard learned that the town is now powered by the substation, though the project is yet to be commissioned.
Reacting to the development, the supreme ruler of the Jukun race and Aku-Uka of Wukari, Manu Ishaku Adda Ali, Amatakhitswen, yesterday applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for completing the electricity project.
According to him, the completion of the project had been the dream of Tarabans, who had been longing for a reliable power source that would cater for their needs. “Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, who was then Minister for Power, contributed immensely to the realisation of the project and is greatly commended for his passion for his home state,” he said.
He further appealed to community residents to safeguard electricity infrastructure and protect against vandalism.
