- MONUSCO works towards public lighting to reduce insecurity.
- The organisation subsidises solar power lamps in Mavivi.
The United Nations Organisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) has announced plans to deploy solar street power lamps in several communities. The territory of Beni has a dismal reputation due to the insecurity it has endured for decades.
MONUSCO has subsidised solar-powered lamps in Mavivi, and its objective is to protect residents against armed group invasions. The streetlights, a total of twenty-eight, will be mounted on a stretch of road between the Mavivi reference health centre and the main road. This effort has been included among MONUSCO’s quick impact projects.
“The project’s beneficiaries, particularly the medical personnel of the referral centre, the local authorities, and the local community, applaud this initiative,” MONUSCO added.
