Two Firms Get Approval for Battery Storage Facility in the UK

Energy firms Penso Power and Luminous Energy have secured planning permission for their joint venture, Welbar Energy Storage, to develop a 350MW connection capacity battery storage in the United Kingdom. The facility is expected to have a five-hour duration.

According to a local news report, the project in Hams Hall, North Warwickshire, includes approval for more than 1,750MWh of battery storage. The lithium-ion battery asset has scope for more than five hours of duration.

Penso Power noted that it would provide a broad range of services to support Britain’s electricity grid, including the potential to provide longer duration services.
