German Utility Awarded 607MW of Solar Projects

  • The project includes floating, carport, and agrivoltaic solar projects

In Germany’s latest innovation tender, solar-plus-storage has been selected for a 204MW solar project that is to be installed on buildings and noise barriers in the country. The tender, with a deadline of April 1 was oversubscribed. Plans by the Federal Network Agency were to award 397MW but 45 bids were received for a total of 435MW. According to the power regulator, every project that competed featured a solar plant with an energy storage system.

This round of innovation tender was for the first time open for bids for special solar systems. The systems include floating, carport, and agrivoltaic solar projects. About 13 proposals for these kinds of systems totalling 22MW were submitted and all of them were accepted. 12 projects of 21MW capacities were for agrivoltaic plants and one project of 1MW capacity for a carport was part of the proposals received.

The bids received were within the range of EUR 0.039 to EUR 0.074 per kWh. The volume-weighted average price was about EUR 0.054 per kWh, rising from the EUR 0.045 per kWh that it was in the previous round.

The solar plants’ auction on buildings and noise barriers, unlike that of the innovation tender, was very much undersubscribed, with reasons being attributed to the sharp increase in the tendered capacity. The Federal Network Agency targeted 767MW but only 171 bids were received for a total of 212MW. 163 projects were awarded a planned capacity of 204MW.
