German Firm to Build 5 MW Electrolyser Plant in Bavaria

  •  1,200 kg of green hydrogen to be produced per day.

German hydrogen initiative Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH has initiated plans to construct a 5 MW electrolyser in Bavaria. The plant is expected to start producing green hydrogen for the local transportation sector in the second half of 2023.

Kraftanlagenn Energies & Services GmbH, a Munich-based engineering company, has been tasked to construct the plant. The plant will also have an alkaline electrolyser from Norwegian manufacturer NEL ASA. The municipality of Pfeffenhausen will host the electrolyser, which will be powered by a 10 MW solar park located nearby, and operated by BurgerEnergie Niederbayern eG.

The expectation is that 1,200 kg of green hydrogen will be produced per day and transported using trucks to two filling stations in Munich and Ebersberg. The green hydrogen produced will be consumed by ten hydrogen buses in the regional traffic of Munich, and the excess will be supplied to other customers in the energy and mobility sectors. Projections are that in 2024 or 2025, WTAZ, the green hydrogen technology application centre that will be constructed close to the electrolyser, will receive green hydrogen.

Hy2B Wasserstoff is a joint initiative of Hynergy Invest GmbH, BayWa AG, Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, the districts of Landshut and Munich as well as energy cooperatives Niederbayern eG, Isar eG and Unterhaching eG. It was created in 2020 for the construction of the electrolyser.
