- NextSource has begun the construction of a solar and battery hybrid power plant in Madagascar.
Renewable energy developer NextSource Materials, a subsidiary of CrossBoundary Energy, has announced the construction of a hybrid solar power plant under the first phase of the Molo Graphite Mine in Madagascar. The company had previously completed a definitive energy services agreement with CrossBoundary Energy.
The Hybrid Plant will consist of a 2.6MW solar PV facility, a 1MWh battery energy storage system and a 3.1MW thermal facility. The Hybrid Plant will be located adjacent to the Molo mine site and will provide up to 33% of the mine’s total Phase 1 electricity needs from renewable solar energy, with the remainder coming from thermal generators.
Earthworks and civil construction at the mine site are progressing according to schedule and will be ready to arrive at the processing plant and auxiliary buildings in June 2022. The plant is expected to be completed and commissioned in the third quarter of 2022.
