- Engages PPA with a 17.6MW hybrid facility.
- Plans carbon-neutral production for 2050.
Suzuki Motor Corp, the popular Japanese carmaker, has revealed its plans to increase renewable electricity consumption at its plants in India. The company has revealed that it will do so through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a 17.6MW wind and solar hybrid facility.
ReNew Power, an Indian renewables company, installed the facility exclusively for Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd (SMG), a subsidiary of Suzuki in Gujarat state. This makes the company the first Suzuki Group company to source renewable electricity through an off-site corporate PPA.
SMG, since 2018, has also installed a 0.5MW solar photovoltaic (PV) array on its premises.
Another subsidiary of Suzuki that is located in India, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, has commenced the installation of solar PV at its plant in Manesar in 2014 and currently generates 26.3MW of solar power at the factory.
Suzuki plans on making its production chain carbon neutral by 2050.
