Peridot Solar Plans to Construct Solar Projects in Italy and UK

  • Peridot Solar plans to build a 5GW portfolio of solar projects in Italy and the UK.
  • Peridot Solar proposes to build 120 MW of PV parks in Italy
  • Two 33-MW plants in Lazio and Sardinia are about to begin

By 2026, Peridot Solar, a portfolio business of British investment firm FitzWalter Capital, plans to develop and build a portfolio of solar projects totalling 5 GW in Italy and the United Kingdom to reduce Europe’s reliance on Russian gas. According to its parent, the start-up already has more than 1 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the two nations and aims to start building 180 MW of plants this year.

Peridot Solar proposes to build 120 MW of PV parks in Italy, while 60 MW of plants would be built in the United Kingdom. However, the particular locations of the projects and the amount of money necessary were not divulged.

According to Radiocor, construction of two 33-MW plants in Lazio and Sardinia is about to begin, with work on a 30 MW facility in Fiumesanto set to begin in the coming weeks. In July, another 30-MW plant in Carbonia is planned to come online. The London-based firm, founded to develop, build, and run European solar parks, stated that solar PV investment is the most important factor in addressing climate change and reducing reliance on gas.

“In the short-to-medium term, solar can lessen energy dependence on Russia while also generating clean energy.” However, to take advantage of this potential and contribute to the solution, projects must be developed across Europe,” stated Massimo Sapienza, managing director.
