- The legislation will support a smooth and safe energy transition – Minister.
The government of Algeria has commenced work on new legislation for the transition into green energy as it targets supporting the transformation in all aspects, according to the country’s minister of renewable energy Benattou Ziane.
Ziane, while giving a speech at a meeting of the Algerian Confederation of Citizen Employers (CAPC) in Algiers, assured that the country aims to achieve a smooth and safe energy transition that is based on the principles of economic efficiency and diversified resources.
Looking out for its long-term energy security, the country is seeking the development of a new energy model that will aid it in overcoming the challenges that the country is encountering as a result of the rapid structural changes in the global energy sector, the minister said as cited by newspaper Echorouk.
In Ziane’s words, “the new energy model must be based on the principle of diversification in the areas of energy sources, transport technologies, financing ways and international partners as well as diversification of markets.”
The government of Algeria currently awaits proposals for a 1 GW solar photovoltaic tender that got the interest of 111 investors by the middle of May. The auction targets the allocation of capacity in lots of between 50 MW and 300 MW in five provinces of the country.
