The management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has expressed regret over the escalating instances of infrastructure vandalism in its franchise, which is severely impacting the company’s operations. The corporation expressed its concern in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, between January and June of this year, 158 distribution sub-stations in the company’s four franchise states were vandalized. As a result, Bello Musa, the company’s Chief Engineering and Technical Services Officer, reported that ₦238,701,800:65 worth of equipment was lost. Similarly, the business lost ₦147,953,449:01 in anticipated income throughout the investigation.
He claimed that some of the extended outages and service disruptions experienced by the customers were brought on by damage and theft of the company’s power supply assets by some self-centred and criminal members of society. He called the destruction of power supply assets a heinous crime against society and a vile act of sabotage. “The destruction of critical national assets like power supply infrastructure by a few unpatriotic elements is a despicable act of sabotage, a mindless criminality and the pinnacle of irresponsibility which we must collectively fight as a society,” he said.
Out of the 158 distribution sub-stations that were vandalized, 54 have been repaired, and supply has been restored to the affected customers, according to Musa, who added that work is being done to put the remaining sub-stations back into service.
Bello Musa urges law enforcement officials and security organizations to prosecute those responsible for this crime with the full force of the law.
