- 504 MW Rail Tie wind farm to be built in Wyoming
- The farm is expected to become operational by the end of 2023.
ConnectGen LLC, a Texas-based renewables developer, has received the green light to commence the interconnection of its 504 MW Rail Tie wind farm in Wyoming. The farm is to be connected to the Colorado-based Western Area Power Administration grid. The company has issued a Record of Decision (ROD) that approves two interconnection requests by ConnectGen towards linking the facility through a transmission line that is currently existing, running through the project site.
The Rail Tie WInd farm, which will be installed in the Albany County of Wyoming, is expected to cost USD 500 million for its construction. The developer estimates that a sum of USD 130 million is the expected revenue in terms of state and local tax the plant should generate during its construction and operational lifespan.
About 129 turbines, each having a capacity of 4.2 MW, are projected to be installed in two identical phases around 252 MW. The farm is expected to become operational by the end of 2023.
There is already a wind energy conservation system permit and siting approval from Wyoming regulators for the project. Also, the scheme’s final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was issued last November.
ConnectGen currently has 139 MW of greenfield capacity in operation and more than 20 GW of wind, solar and battery storage projects in the US.
