RIC Energy, a Spanish solar PV developer, has announced that it has launched the construction of a 23 MWp photovoltaic (PV) farm in Uganda. The Xsabo Group, a Kampala-based German-Ugandan diversified consultancy, has contracted the project, dubbed Nkonge, to RIC Energy. The project will also include the construction of a 132 kV/33 kV step-up substation and an overhead line spanning 4.5 kilometres of 132 kV, according to RIC Energy.
RIC Energy projects that the construction phase of the project would have been completed by the first half of 2023. Upon the commencement of operation of the Nkonge solar farm, The Xsabo Group will have its output sold to Uganda Electricity Transmission Co Ltd, while RIC Energy continues to provide operations and maintenance services.
RIC Energy touts Nkonge as the largest privately funded solar project in Uganda and one of the largest in East and Central Africa.
The firm was previously hired by The Xsabo Group to build its 20-MWp Kabulasoke solar farm in Uganda.
