- Spearmint Energy has announced its purchase of a 150 MW battery storage scheme in Texas.
- The BESS is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2023.
Spearmint Energy, a US solar and energy storage developer, has announced its purchase of a 150 MW battery storage scheme in Texas from a unit of Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses, a New York-based renewable energy group.
The company did not reveal how much the purchase was made. Spearmint Energy which was only set up in 2022, revealed that the acquisition is the first in its portfolio.
The Revolution battery energy storage system (BESS) will be installed in the utility Lower Colorado River Authority Territory region, which is close to a huge wind farm and a solar panel field. Once it commences operations, the BESS will be Texas’s largest energy storage facility.
Spearmint Energy expects to bring the BESS online in the second quarter of 2023 to deliver storage capacity to West Texas’ ERCOT.
“It is clear to us that the rapidly growing demand for flexible generation assets in ERCOT is just getting started, and as such, we hope that by continuing to acquire projects like this one, we will help solve congestion issues across the state while empowering others to assist in our country’s clean energy buildout,” said Andrew Waranch, Spearmint’s president and CEO.
