  • Avangrid to oversee operations at a wind farm in Massachusetts.

Energy company Avangrid Inc has announced that it will handle the operations and management for the 800-MW Vineyard Wind 1 wind farm, being built in US waters off the coast of Massachusetts.

The largely-owned unit of Spanish electric utility group Iberdrola SA has sealed an agreement covering the operations and maintenance of what will be the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the US and also has an asset management contract for the project.

Avangrid will oversee the power plant’s operations, take care of turbine, cable and substation maintenance, coordinate contractors, and deliver control centre and power trading services.

The huge wind farm will become fully operational in 2024 and generate enough electricity for 400,000 homes and businesses across the Commonwealth.
