Ikeja Electric Trains 140 Graduates to Boost Metering Efforts

  • Ikeja Electric Plc has trained 140 employees to boost metering density and management across its network.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja DisCo) has concluded a training programme for graduates to accelerate its metering strategy. Folake Soetan, the Chief Executive Officer of Ikeja Electric, said during the presentation of certificates to the graduates that the Ikeja Electric Metering Academy was established in 2020 as a result of a lack of workers with the necessary skills to install meters, which caused a slow rate of metering throughout its network.

The National Power Program Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) and the Energy Training Center collaborated on the training, according to the CEO, who was represented by Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Ikeja Electric, Ms Seqinah Akinwunmi.

According to her, the young graduands were selected across Ikeja Electric’s six Business Units which included; Akowonjo, Shomolu, Abule-Egba, Ikeja, Oshodi and Ikorodu.

“The programme will also equip staff to carry out the functions including meter installation, identifying faults and also rectifying the faults. This will improve service delivery, ensure customer satisfaction, and grow revenue,” Ms Akinwunmi stated.

The Managing Director, Energy Training Centre, Ms Ibiene Okeleke, said: “Ikeja Electric had invested heavily in the Metering Academy. They partnered with Energy Training Centre (ETC) to ensure the 140 candidates were trained by the Metering Academy, across three batches.”
