Globeleq Plans 3.6GW Hydrogen Complex in Egypt

Globeleq, Africa-focused independent power (IPP), has announced the launch of a green hydrogen production hub powered by 9GW of wind and solar capacity within the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt.

The company, under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to develop, build, own and operate a hydrogen complex in phases. The first phase will involve the construction of a pilot electrolyser of 100 MW to produce green ammonia fertilisers.

According to the firm, other end-uses of the produced green hydrogen, including green fuels, will be considered in the medium and long term. Its ultimate goal is to sell the output of the complex to the local markets and internationally, starting with signing off-take agreements with “leading and creditworthy Egyptian and international companies.”
