D-8 Countries to Support Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan

  • Nigeria’s Energy Transition plan receives support from D-8.

The member nations of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation have expressed a willingness to support Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan. This announcement was made known by the Secretary-General of D-8, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, while briefing some members of the Board of Directors of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET).

These individuals had recently travelled to the Republic of Turkey to sign a partnership agreement with Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST), a leading Turkish energy company, to revive Nigeria’s power sector reform efforts and improve performance.

Ambassador Imam provided the board with an update on the various programs and activities of the D-8 organisation since his assumption of duty at the beginning of this year. The delegation was led by Mr Nebolisa Anako, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Power of Nigeria.

According to the Ambassador, the organisation will have its first sectoral meeting on energy in Iran later this year. He further encouraged NBET to attend with the Nigerian delegation, offering to coordinate with other members on potential capacity-building initiatives with NBET in the energy sector.
