- The Dutch Cabinet sets an ambitious goal for sustainable power generation by 2050
- The project will provide fuel such as hydrogen and electricity to the country.
Last week, the Dutch cabinet set an ambitious 70GW offshore target to ensure sustainable power generation in the country. The project will include hydrogen production and electricity generation in the north sea. This project aims to facilitate the Netherlands’ transition to clean energy, ensure the security of supply, and generate electricity while producing hydrogen at sea.
This decision to build about 260GW of wind farms offshore 2050 sprang from the commitment of the North Seas Energy Cooperation, a group of 9 North Sea Countries. The project’s timeline is to see the delivery of 50GW by 2049 and 70GW by 2050. Rob Jetten, the Minister of Climate and Energy, stated that the laid-out plan, though ambitious, would provide opportunities to work, take caution and look out for future opportunities. This project will promote the use of green hydrogen as a fuel for industry, and connect more people to power resulting in sustainable power and economic development.
