- North-East Governors are concerned that about 5% of total allocated power is delivered in the region.
- Mambilla power project to improve power supply to the region
The North-East governors, during the 7th North-East Governors Forum[NEGF], deliberated on issues affecting the region. During the meeting held in the Government House, Gombe, Gombe state, the governors shared their concerns over the poor state of power supply in the region.
A communique read by the Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, stated that the region receives only about 5% of total allocated power from the national grid despite accounting for about 30% of the country’s landmass and 14% of the total population. He noted that the impact of adequate power supply eventually trickles down to economic growth and security, resulting in improved livelihoods. The governors called for the federal government to see the accelerated completion of the 3050MW Mambilla Hydroelectricity project in Taraba state.
