The impact of crises like COVID-19, the war between Ukraine and Russia, and the drought in some parts of Africa have significantly impacted agriculture and resulted in a food crisis. During the just concluded African Green Revolution Forum 2022, which was held from 6th to 9th September in Kigali, Rwanda, The Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa [AGRA] announced a 5-year strategy to cushion the effect of the looming food crises in Africa and improve agricultural processes and output
The strategy of AGRA over the next five years spanning from 2023 to 2027 is the release of the catalytic fund of $550million aimed at reaching 26 million farmers through government partnerships and policy reforms and 11 million farmers in 15 African countries directly impacted.
As part of the strategic plan to support green agriculture in Africa, the initiative will train 33,000 village advisors, launch 11 national flagship programs, and support at least 42 policy reforms. At the end of this program, AGRA expects that at least 30% of targeted farmers will adopt sustainable agricultural practices that protect the environment and improve their livelihood.
