- Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) signed an agreement with the solar home systems provider Easy Solar in Liberia.
- The partnership covers the electrification of 9,000 households via solar home systems.
The Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) engages in a new electrification project in Liberia for an agreement recently signed with Easy Solar. The Freetown, Sierra Leone-based solar home systems provider, will leverage BGFA funding to give at least 9,000 solar home systems to households in Liberia.
Its apparatus will be able to offer fans, radio, television, and mobile phone charging. For the efficient use of electricity, the contract also calls for the delivery of freezers and water pumping solutions. Easy Solar distributes its equipment in rural Liberia using a pay-as-you-go business model, which is relatively typical in the sub-Saharan African market for solar household systems.
The AFMO has so far signed four contracts for Liberia’s electrification. It is anticipated that these agreements will give 94,000 households in Liberia’s rural and peri-urban areas access to power. “With the support of the BGFA, we will be able to expand our business and deepen our expansion in Liberia, providing access to clean energy and other life-enhancing goods to thousands of people living in off-grid communities,” said Alexandre Tourre, Easy Solar’s CEO and co-founder.
