The West African Clean Energy and Environment (WACEE) Summit 2022, themed ‘Catalysing Sustainable Investments,’ was held in Lagos yesterday. The event focused on clean energy, water and circular economy and featured exhibitors worldwide. It had Katharina Felgenhauer, The Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria and other distinguished guests in attendance. In an address, Felgenhauer said: “For the first time in 10 years, WACEE is taking place in Lagos, bringing together the right partners to catalyse sustainable investments”. She added that WACEE is a platform for exchanging conversations between experts and beneficiaries to produce practical and sustainable solutions.
She noted that Nigeria is currently experiencing challenges from the impact of climate change, like flooding. She stressed the importance of private and public sector collaboration to tackle climate change effects in Nigeria. Also, Weert Börner, a German Consul General in Lagos, emphasised the need to invest in green and sustainable energy, affirming the event as a catalyst for the projects. He noted that many companies in Germany, especially SMEs, are involved in improving their product’s ecological footprint to provide solutions to environmental challenges.
Finally, the Consul General, Consulate of Switzerland in Nigeria, Thomas Schneider, added that COVID-19 showed the world that today’s challenge doesn’t end at the national borders noting that climate change requires international collaboration and technological solutions.
