On Tuesday, The United States announced a clean energy partnership with the United Arab Emirates worth $100 billion. According to the White House spokesperson Jean-Pierre, the partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy(PACE) aims to develop clean low-emissions energy source distribution of 100GW globally by 2035.
The fund will go into supporting the emerging underfunded emerging economy’s clean energy development. PACE reflects the US commitment to partnering and accelerating the clean energy transition. In addition, both countries will invest in developing nuclear technology and decarbonizing industrial and transport sectors.
Sultan Al Jaber, the head of UAE oil giant ADNOC and the Gulf state special envoy for climate change, said that Although oil is a cornerstone of energy supply, UAE was working to lower emissions and increase production from renewable or less-polluting sources. According to United Nations, fossil fuels are the largest contributors to climate change and account for 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Although COP 26 ended with a pledge to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius over preindustrial levels, the world may miss out on the goal with current emission trends.
