- Singapore announced that it will achieve the net zero target by 2050.
- This will help India reduce its ammonia and Urea imports by about six million tonnes.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between India’s renewable energy company Greenko and Singapore’s Keppel Infrastructure to explore opportunities in green hydrogen. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Singapore International Energy Week that commenced on the 25th of October. In this MoU, India’s Greenko group will supply Singapore’s Keppel Infrastructure with 250,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. This green hydrogen will be supplied to Keppel’s new 600Mw power plant in Singapore. In addition, the MoU also outlines the export of green ammonia to Singapore’s Keppel Infrastructure.
Recently, Singapore announced that it will achieve the net zero target by 2050, and it upheld the potential of green hydrogen to meet its power and mobility requirements. India, on the other hand, is already pushing the green hydrogen adoption and development of its technology.
Mahesh Kolli, President and Joint Managing Director of Greenko Group, stated that green ammonia exported to Singapore would be supplied through the Keppel network in Singapore’s network of bunker fuel supplies to ships. Greenko’s wide range of investments includes USD 5 billion in carbon-free green hydrogen energy storage across India. Greenko plans to produce 3 million tonnes of green ammonia to cater for domestic and export markets. This will help India reduce its ammonia and Urea imports by about six million tonnes.
