- The government of Mozambique is launching a notice of pre-qualification of independent power producers (IPPs) for developing two solar projects.
- The solar plants will be built under public-private partnerships (PPP), with a combined capacity of 60 MW.
The Mozambican Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy is publishing a notice of pre-qualification of Independent Power Producers (IPP) for two solar photovoltaic facilities with a combined capacity of 60 MW under the Renewable Energy Auction Programme (Proler).
In the western Mozambican province of Tete, in the town of Manje, a 30 MW solar power facility will be constructed. The second 30 MW solar power plant will be built in Chimbunila, in the Niassa province’s northwest.
Shortlisted IPPs will then have the opportunity to submit a proposal for the pre-qualification notice, according to the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE). IPPs interested in these solar projects must submit their applications by January 17, 2023.
With the Proler, 120 MW of wind and solar power will be developed. IPPs that enter into public-private partnerships (PPPs) with the appropriate Mozambican authorities will carry out all projects. Total Eren has already received the first concession under this program. In addition, the building of a 40 MWp solar photovoltaic power plant in the Safala province’s Dondo area, around 30 km from the port city of Beira, has been given to a subsidiary of the French oil giant TotalEnergies. Through the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union (EU) provides funding for the Proler .
