- The European Union has signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Japan
- MoC to focus on sustainable and affordable production, trade transport, storage, distribution and use of hydrogen.
The European Union has alluded to a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Japan. The MoC was signed as part of an effort towards establishing a rules-based and transparent global market for low-carbon and renewable hydrogen.
In the announcement from the European Commission, it was revealed that the cooperation would be focused on sustainable and affordable production, trade transport, storage, distribution and use of hydrogen.
The MoC provides a framework for detailed proposals concerning the development of programmes for cooperation. The areas in which the two sides will work together include policies, regulations, incentives and subsidies; best practices and know-how; project development; and training and education, among others.
The EU and Japan have set the long-term goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050.
