- ABF to expand battery cell production in the US, starting with Tucson, Arizona.
- ABF estimates that its initial project will have an economic impact worth $3.1 billion.
American Battery Factory (ABF) plans to construct several giga-scale battery cell production plants with a $1.2 billion facility in Tucson, Arizona.
The business has chosen a location with about 2 million square feet (185,806 square meters) to build its first production base, which will also house its headquarters. According to ABF, the factory is slated to emerge as the most significant US producer of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells.
Consumers, homes, company owners, and electric utilities will all be able to purchase cells from the new plant. The producer claims its batteries are produced without nickel or cobalt and last twice as long as other batteries.
ABF estimates that its initial project will have an economic impact worth $3.1 billion. Initially, the plant will open 300 job positions and will later employ up to 1,000 people. The headquarters will house office premises and a research and development centre. Together with the initial factory module, they are planned to be built within the next 18-24 months.
Major cell components for the production will be sourced from Celgard, while Anovion will supply synthetic graphite. In addition, Honeywell is planning to provide automation, cybersecurity and optimization products and services.
