UISA to Construct Biogas Plant in Mato Grosso

  • BNDES to lend  $14.7m to UISA for biogas facility construction in Mato Grosso.
  • The facility will be able to produce solid and liquid biofertilisers in addition to biomethane and electricity.

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) will lend $14.7 million to UISA Geo Biogas SA for the construction of a biogas and sugarcane bagasse-biomass plant in the state of Mato Grosso.

According to the bank, the financing will cover 33% of the total cost of the project, which is estimated to be BRL 243.5 million. It provides funding for the installation of equipment to produce 11.4 million cubic metres of biomethane and 32,000 MWh of clean electricity per year.

The biogas facility, which will be built in the municipality of Nova Olimpia, is set to open in December 2024. The biomethane produced will be distributed throughout the region, with a portion of it being used to replace diesel in a portion of UISA’s truck fleet. According to the bank, the generated electricity should cover the unit’s own demand and any excess could be exported.

The facility will be able to produce solid and liquid biofertilisers in addition to biomethane and electricity.
