For the exclusive offtake of 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia yearly from a manufacturing plant that will be constructed in the southeast coastline region of India, German energy giant Uniper SE will hold exclusive talks with a division of Greenko Group.
A set of terms and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the exclusive discussions with Greenko ZeroC Private Ltd. have been inked, according to Uniper.
For the supply of green ammonia from the first phase of Greenko’s manufacturing site in Kakinada, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Greenko and the German company will negotiate a price, supply schedule, and tenure structure. Europe will receive the imported ammonia.
Ammonia will be produced in the project’s initial phase at an electrolysis plant supported by the Pinnapuram Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Plant and 2.5 GW of continuous renewable energy generation. By 2027, the Kakinada ammonia project should be able to produce one million tonnes of ammonia annually.
The Greenko Kakinada project, according to Uniper’s chief commercial officer Niek den Hollander, “is a highly attractive prospect to source green ammonia and assure the supply of low carbon hydrogen products for Germany.”
The two firms intend to collaborate on the manufacture of e-methanol and sustainable aviation fuels based on renewable energy in addition to green ammonia.
