HydrogenPro AS, a Norwegian company that makes high-pressure alkaline electrolysers, today disclosed plans to build a 500 MW factory in Texas as it prepares to enter the US market, where incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are driving up demand for green hydrogen.

In this brownfield project, the company anticipates investing between $30 million and $50 million, bringing its total manufacturing capacity to 800 MW. It was stated that the site might eventually be scaled up to several gigawatts.

“The US factory will be our bridgehead into the North American market,” said Tarjei Johansen, chief executive of HydrogenPro, whose technology is suitable for large-scale industrial applications.

The company claimed that it selected Texas after evaluating locations based on aspects like accessibility to end consumers and experienced labor, infrastructure, ease of locating raw materials, and state-level incentives.

According to HydrogenPro, its European sales team has already identified a number of prospects for it to pursue in the US. The expansion of manufacturing will go hand in hand with the company’s plans to grow its American operation.
