To establish a manufacturing base in Brazil, the Chinese manufacturer of wind turbines Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Tech Co Ltd plans to invest BRL 150 million ($28.6 million), focusing on Bahia.
According to information released last week by Governor Jeronimo Rodrigues’ press office, Goldwind Energias Renovaveis, a subsidiary of the Chinese corporation, has signed a protocol of intent with state officials. The agreement specified the manufacturer’s proposed investment and its collaboration with the government.
It is anticipated that the wind turbine manufacturer’s plan will create 250 direct jobs and 850 indirect jobs. The entire Latin American nation, in particular Bahia, boasts a strategic location and good road and port infrastructure, according to José Eduardo Teixeira, general director of Goldwind Brazil.
If it is successful in bringing some of its suppliers to the area, he noted, the pricing of its products may become much more competitive.
Following discussions with three Brazilian states, including Bahia, Ceara, and Pernambuco, Goldwind’s strategy was made public. According to Roberto Veiga, general manager of Goldwind in Brazil, who spoke with Reuters in October, the company plans to begin shipping products from the new production in 2024.
