In an effort to narrow its emphasis on key markets, the Swiss electricity company Alpiq is selling a 72.5 MW wind farm and two companies in Bulgaria for an unknown sum.
On Monday, Alpiq announced that it has concluded an agreement with independent power producer Renalfa IPP of Vienna, Austria, for the sale of the Vetrocom wind farm in Bulgaria. Alpiq Wind Services and Alpig Energia Bulgaria will be purchased solely by Vienna-based Renalfa Solarpro Group, which also created Renalfa IPP as a joint venture with French investor RGreen Invest.
For the purpose of running and maintaining the Vetrocom wind farm, Alpiq Wind Services was founded in 2017. According to the Swiss corporation, Alpiq’s energy trading division, Alpiq Energia Bulgaria, is in charge of commercializing Vetrocom’s power and managing the purchase and sale of balancing energy in relation to Vetrocom and for third-party assets.
The sole asset owned by Alpiq is the Vetrocom wind farm. There are 29 wind turbines in it, which were installed in three stages between 2010 and 2012.
The wind farm is situated in Kazanlak, a town that is about 200 kilometers (124.3 miles) east of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. According to a Monday release, Renalfa IPP, which focuses on East Europe, won the deal for its acquisition in a competitive auction.
The sale is subject to the usual closing conditions and requires regulatory approval. The parties expect to close the deal some time in 2023.
