The local petrochemical firm Braskem SA and the Brazilian renewable energy producer Casa dos Ventos Energias today announced the signing of a wind power supply deal. The value of the off-take deal is $411.67m.

According to the 22-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Braskem will get a portion of the electricity produced from the 1,038-MW Rio do Vento wind complex as well as the 202.5-MW Umari wind park.

While Rio do Vento’s is expected to be fully operational this year, Umari, which is now under construction, will start operating in 2024. Rio Grande do Norte, a state in northeastern Brazil, is where both assets are situated.

The collaboration is a step closer to Braskem’s sustainability objectives, which include becoming carbon neutral by 2050. All told, this is the petrochemical company’s sixth PPA for wind or solar it has signed in Brazil over the course of four years, and its second with Casa dos Ventos.
