- The German-Tunisian mobility start-up Bako Motors has donated six health clinics with solar-powered electric tricycles to facilitate their on-the-ground interventions.
- Tunisia intends to lower its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 46%.
German-Tunisian startup in the mobility sector To health clinics in the Tunisian cities of El Guettar, Gabes, Kairouan, Kasserine, Djerba-Midoun, and Tozeur, Bako Motors recently delivered six electric tricycles. The project Decentralized Cooperation Maghreb-Germany (KWT II), carried out by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, was co-financed by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) (BMZ).
The company’s plant, which is situated in the Mghira industrial zone close to the governorate of Ben Arous, produced the solar-powered equipment. These will make it easier for medical professionals to move around throughout their vaccination and awareness programs.
Each tricycle, according to the start-up founded in 2021 by engineer Boubaker Siala, has a 4,000-watt motor and an electric battery with a 200-kilometer range when fully charged using a solar panel or a 220-watt household outlet. A year ago, Bako Motors claimed that 70 tricycles and electric bicycles would be produced locally for 12,000 dinars (3,700 euros) each unit, without taxes.
To promote environmentally friendly mobility throughout the rest of Africa, the start-up wants to establish a subsidiary in Nigeria before 2024 where these electric vehicles would also be sold. The cost of global warming, which is made worse by air pollution, is being felt by the continent.
The cause of this phenomenon is the heat automobiles that go daily along the roadways. Hence, the decarbonization of the transportation industry will be made possible through the use of renewable energies, particularly solar electricity for automobiles.
