EDF Renewables Seeks Permit for 240-MW Solar Project in New York

The building of a 240-MW solar park with integrated battery storage is part of a project that EDF Renewables North America is attempting to secure a site permit for in New York state. According to a formal filing with the New York Office of Renewable Energy Siting(ORES), the application was submitted last week by the project vehicle Rich Road Solar Energy Center LLC.

The Rich Road photovoltaic (PV) farm, which will span over 1,700 acres (4,200 hectares) of land, is slated to be constructed in the Town of Canton, St. Lawrence County. It is anticipated that once it is running, it will provide enough electricity to supply 61,000 houses annually. The project website states that 2025 is the target year for achieving commercial operations.

The facility will be connected to an energy storage system with 20 MW/80 MWh of battery capacity.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarded long-term contracts to Rich Road as one of the projects as part of a state solicitation for large-scale renewable energy certificates. (RECs). The success of three projects for EDF Renewables, totaling 940 MW of solar capacity and 60 MW of battery storage capacity, was revealed last summer.
