TotalEnergies E&P Nigeria has pledged to end routine gas flaring in 2023, in line with its commitment to delivering safer, cleaner, and accessible energy transition energy. According to Deputy Managing Director Victor Bandele, the decision was a deliberate measure to actualise energy security and sufficiency, with about 95% of the company’s gas production already being utilised. The announcement was made during the Chief Executive Officers Roundtable at the Nigeria International Energy Summit. The company aims to ensure fully integrated, sustainable, and available energy in the oil and gas industry to actualise energy transition, with the safety of people and respect for the environment at the forefront. Bandele said TotalEnergies had made progress in domestic gas education to stakeholders and was continuously enriching its gas portfolio for export.
The company is also involved in expanding gas development projects, inaugurating onshore projects, and acquiring the second-largest solar company in the world to work in that space. Bandele challenged industry regulators to increase the scope of gas used on gas channels since the pipelines were being utilised, and the company is also in talks with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company on installing another 10 MW electricity to a community in the zone of its project.
