- The low-carbon cement named “Eco Label” is the third to be launched by the Group from its “ECOPlanet” range since 2022.
- Real estate developers in Nigeria can now construct their buildings with this product.
LafargeHolcim, a Swiss multinational and the world’s largest cement manufacturing company, has launched a low-carbon cement in Nigeria after launching “ECOPact” in Algeria and “Chamil” in South Africa last year. The invention of the “Eco Label” cement is part of the company’s strategy to remain committed to environmental responsibility in Africa and transition to using sustainable materials for greener construction.
According to the construction materials specialist, “Eco Label” would enable buildings to have less than 30 per cent carbon footprint, aligning with the thresholds recommended by the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), of which it is a member. This new product, which contains magnesium oxide useful for solidifying structures, aligns with Nigeria’s climate ambitions under the 2015 Paris Agreement to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The Managing Director of Lafarge Africa, Khaled El Dokani, said, “We are the first local manufacturer of eco-friendly cement on the Nigerian market. With the deployment of Eco Label, we are accelerating the transition to sustainable materials for greener construction. This makes us proud to deliver on our net zero commitment through our wide range of value-for-money solutions.”
The “Eco Label” makes it the third low-carbon cement the Group has launched from its “ECOPlanet” range since 2022.
