- Texas CCS facility marks early success in emission reduction.
- The facility targets 210,000 tons of CO2 equivalent sequestration annually.
BKV and EnLink Midstream finished the first carbon dioxide injection at the Barnett Zero CCS facility in Texas early. The facility, a prototype for future projects, targets an annual sequestration rate of 210,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent. BKV in North Texas will supply natural gas to EnLink.
EnLink processes the gas at the Bridgeport plant, compressing and storing the CO2 underground nearby. President Biden’s administration sees CCS as vital for the nation’s 2050 net-zero emissions goal, offering tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act.
Oil and gas leaders, including COP28, host the UAE and support CCS technology for emission reduction while using fossil fuels for energy. BKV’s second CCS project, Cotton Cove in Texas, will start commercial operations by 2024. This progress marks a significant step towards sustainable energy practices.
