The government of Ceara state, Brazil, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Grupo Jepri to develop a green hydrogen project in the northeastern state. Specifically, the local government announced that the group plans to invest €3.3 billion (USD 3.6 billion) in the project.
The green hydrogen facility in Ceara’s Pecem Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP) will produce around 1.2 million tonnes of clean fuel annually. Construction is planned to commence in 2025, while hydrogen generation is estimated to begin in the last quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027, Jepri’s CEO Cesar Ruiz Munoz said.
This is the 35th MoU that the Ceara government signed with a private company tied to the production of green hydrogen in the state. In addition, the local government has inked four pre-contracts with companies. An estimated USD 17.9 billion (€16.4 billion) will be invested in Ceara by 2030. The objective is to generate 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen and 6 GW of energy annually, as highlighted by the state government.
