The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) of Nigeria will host a multi-format side event at the Nigeria Pavilion at COP28 in Dubai. The event, themed “Renewable Energy for Inclusive Development: Optimising Innovation for Social Impact and Economic Growth in Nigeria”, will be held on December 5 2023.
The REA will also host a second side event later on the same day on “Funding the Energy Access Gap in Last-Mile Communities in Nigeria”. This second side event will target a more specialised group of renewable energy developers, financiers and investors in the global off-grid space. The REA will showcase its wins at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The agency has deployed over 100 solar hybrid mini-grids and more than 1.6 million solar home systems in just four years. The Implementing Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the Federal Ministry of Power, has unlocked the economic potential of $9.2 billion per annum and cut a self-generation cost of $14 billion in 10 years, catalysing transformative development in last-mile communities in Nigeria.
