- The project will deliver renewable electricity equivalent to more than 400GWh yearly to the South African national grid for 20 years.
- The PPA for the facility is in place and will supply 75MW of dispatchable power to Eskom through its storage system.
TotalEnergies and its partners have started constructing a 216 megawatts (MW) solar power plant with 500 megawatt-hours of battery storage facility in South Africa. The hybrid power project, located in the Northern Cape province, will help manage the intermittency of solar production. The project will deliver dispatchable renewable electricity equivalent to more than 400 gigawatt-hours per year to the South African national grid for 20 years.
A power purchase agreement for the facility is in place and will supply 75MW of dispatchable power to the national utility Eskom through its storage system. TotalEnergies, Hydra Storage Holding and Reatile Renewables are developing the solar hybrid project. TotalEnergies and Hydra Storage Holding hold a 35 per cent stake each and will be the major shareholders in the project, while Reatile Renewables owns the remaining 30 per cent stake.
