GreenYellow developed the 14 MWp capacity Arsenal solar power plant inaugurated in Mauritius. Key dignitaries, including the Mauritian Minister for Energy, Georges Pierre Lesjongard, attended the event.
The inauguration ceremony for the 15-hectare solar park took place in early February 2024 in northern Mauritius. GreenYellow hailed it as a milestone towards Mauritius’ renewable energy targets, set after winning the Central Electricity Board (CEB) tender in 2021.
The Arsenal plant will inject 14 MWp of clean energy into Mauritius’ grid annually to power 4,500 Mauritian households. Minister Lesjongard praised its contribution to achieving the nation’s 35% renewable electricity goal by 2025 and 60% by 2030.
Mauritius, largely dependent on thermal power stations, is actively transitioning towards cleaner energy sources. The Commercial Bank of Mauritius (MCB) supported the Arsenal project with 350 million Mauritian rupees (approximately 7.5 million euros).
Looking ahead, Mauritius plans to further its energy transition by constructing four solar power plants by Qair. These “Stor’Sun (SS)” facilities, totalling 60 MWp, will feature advanced battery-based storage systems.
They are signalling a $151 million investment in Mauritius’ renewable energy sector.
