GreenGo has announced the acquisition of a company owning a project for constructing a BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) in the Province of Catanzaro, Calabria, Spain.
The ambitious and strategic programme envisages the installation of a grid node of a state-of-the-art energy storage system. The BESS will have a total capacity of about 120 MW and 480MWh energy storage in charge and discharge cycles.
The acquisition represents a significant step in the company’s growth strategy, aiming to consolidate its presence not only with competitive grid parity Powergen utility-scale solutions but also by increasing the share of assets with access to regulated markets for the energy transition in Italy. GreenGo thus proposes itself as a leading player in the energy storage sector, extending its BESS portfolio to about 400 MW, of which 250 MW is in the advanced authorisation phase.
Lorenzo Nardon, Head of Finance and M&A at GreenGo, said, “With the new BESS plant in Calabria, we are strengthening our ability to integrate BESS stand-alone solutions by intervening in a region where there is still gap of developing storage systems concerning the needs of the national electricity system.”
GreenGo increases its involvement in the development of 1,700 MW of projects offering 100 per cent green, reliable, and advanced energy solutions, in line with the country’s growing demand for clean energy and with the objectives of PNIEC, which foresee the installation of 70GW of new renewable energy plants by 2030 and, over the next ten years, investments in large-scale electricity storage to reach at least 70 GWh, worth more than 17 billion euro.
